Lot no. 288
Description
HUTCHINSON tyre -
Very rare domed enamelled copper plate circa 1911 depicting "Sam", the tyre repairer, and his faithful dog "Floc" drawn by "MICH" Jean Marie Michel Liébaux (not mentioned). 11.5 cm in diameter.
Beautiful condition, its colours are superb and the brilliance optimal, the reds are intense, the trousers are embossed which adds a qualitative impression.
The bottom margin is missing and there are some incipient micro-cracks, but these do not detract from the beauty of this model.
This type of plate had no fixing holes, and was in fact masked to the glass.
Hutchinson was founded in 1853 in Châlette-sur-Loing (Loiret, Centre-Val de Loire), 100 km south of Paris, by Hiram Hutchinson. This American entrepreneur, a recent immigrant to France, filed the first French patent on the vulcanisation of rubber, the basis for our first product: A l'Aigle boots, to keep feet dry. In 1890, Hutchinson moved into the manufacture of bicycle tyres, and by 1905 had already turned its attention to the automotive sector. In 1910, Hutchinson entered the aeronautical industry.
