Description
CACHOU LAJAUNIE - "SAMPLES" between about 1900 and 1950.
Rare collection of 7 original lithographed advertising "sample" boxes. Approximately 2.3 cm in diameter. Two of them are printed with the words "Société de tableaux et boites illustrées".
There are three addresses in Toulouse: "42 bis rue de Cugnaux, 76, rue de la Colombette, 19 rue d'Aubuisson".
- Very good condition - one of them has been used for "bicycle balls" and the lid has been rubbed.
These boxes were distributed free of charge.
Created in 1880 by pharmacist Leon Lajaunie, Cachou Lajaunie is a black liquorice pastille, presented in its iconic round yellow tin.
Taken over by the Sirven brothers in 1904, the brand was widely distributed in tobacconists' shops and very early on developed innovative advertising, notably with Leonetto Cappiello's posters.
Having become a symbol of Toulouse, the product spanned the XXᵉ century before ceasing production in 2024.
