Description
CACHOU LAJAUNIE -c.1890 Signed "F. TAMAGNO Original lithographed canvas advertising poster. 130 x 99 cm. Signed "B.Sirven.imp.Edit.Toulouse - Paris". - Very good condition - with very good colours. There are only very discreet traces of sunstain in the margins. The whole is particularly fresh and well preserved. The illustrations feature a wide range of male figures: the bourgeoisie, sportsmen, lawyers, policemen, literary figures, drivers and cyclists, all of whom use cachou Lajaunie to clear their voices and keep their breath pleasant, particularly for smokers. Created in 1880 by the pharmacist Leon Lajaunie, Cachou Lajaunie is a black pastille with liquorice, presented in its emblematic round yellow metal tin. Taken over by the Sirven brothers in 1904, the brand was widely distributed in tobacconists' shops and very early on developed innovative advertising, notably with Leonetto Cappiello's posters. Having become a symbol of Toulouse, the product spanned the XXᵉ century before ceasing production in 2024. Haute-Garonne/Occitania
