Description
ALSACIAN STAMP - c.1930
"THE ALSA STAMP
Rare original curved enamelled advertising plate. 30 x 20 cm.
"Emaillerie Alsacienne de Strasbourg".
Very good condition - vivid colours, very well preserved, with optimum brilliance. High quality enamel. The lettering at the top is embossed.
There are minor chips in the upper right and lower left corners.
There is a slight enamel defect in the upper part, at the junction of the white and pink areas, a surface irregularity (like a small bulge) that is hardly noticeable.
The visual impression is excellent, with a particularly satisfactory rendering - a fine example.
In 1897, Emile Moench, a baker from Alsace (Igney-Auricourt), founded the alsa company and moved to Nancy. His wife, Elisabeth, an energetic and hard-working woman, dreamt one day of an Alsatian woman wearing a bonnet and standing next to a stork. From then on, the pink sachets took on an Alsatian woman as their emblem.
