In the middle of the 18th century, the young entrepreneur Court de Payen founded a soap factory in Marseille in 1750, which quickly became one of the most renowned in the country. He ran it until 1775, when Ludovic Falque, his nephew, succeeded him in 1918.
From this date, the soap factory moved to Aygalades. The soap factory closed in the 1970s, when soap lost its usefulness with the arrival of washing machines.
From the beginning of the 19th century, the production of White Marseille Soap with Olive Oil was one of the technical feats that contributed to Court-Payen's renown.
