Description
CACHOU LAJAUNIE - 1896 Signed "LAJAUNIE Letter handwritten in Indian ink by M.LAJAUNIE himself on "CACHOU-LAJAUNIE" headed paper dated 1896 addressed to M.SABATIER, here is the transcription, it is possible that some words are inaccurate, it is a letter to settle a matter of money and dispel a malaise, in order to resume a normal relationship after a broken promise. "Mr Sabatier, Having waited in vain for the pleasure of seeing you here, as you promised during your holidays, I take the liberty of coming to reproach you for your inaccuracy. You must surely have forgotten in this delay, to an exaggerated feeling of delicacy, thinking that I would be interested in your visit. Naturally I had no right to make the 100th part of this proposal, the thing being first right and then agreed. I am therefore sending you the 200 fr. in this envelope, asking you to give them up, because good accounts make good friends. And now that you are rid of this obstacle, let me tell you that we hope to have the pleasure of seeing you when you come to Toulouse. Yours sincerely LAJAUNIE " Created in 1880 by the pharmacist Leon Lajaunie, Cachou Lajaunie is a black liquorice pastille, presented in its emblematic round yellow tin. Taken over by the Sirven brothers in 1904, the brand was widely distributed in tobacconists' shops and very early on developed innovative advertising, notably with Leonetto Cappiello's posters. Having become a symbol of Toulouse, the product spanned the XXᵉ century before ceasing production in 2024. Haute-Garonne/Occitania
