Description
CASSEGRAIN - c.1920
After Eugène OGÉ (not mentioned)
Original lithographed advertising card. 42 x 25 cm. Printed by "imp.Camis - Paris".
Good condition - the colours are well preserved and the brightness is partially reduced. There are some marks around the edges and a few translucent marks on the image, giving it a slightly matt appearance in places.
Cassegrain was founded in 1856 by Charles Cassegrain in Nantes, and rapidly developed into a major cannery with international sales from the early 20th century. Bought by Saupiquet in 1966. Now part of the Bonduelle group.
Anecdote: Eugène Ogé created the figure of the Breton Mélanie, inspired by the famous cook Mélanie Rouat (1878-1955), recognisable by her headdress from Riec-sur-Bélon. This character became the emblem of the brand's preserves until 1959.
The black and white photographs, not included in the sale, are an integral part of the description and provide a useful illustration of the lot.
