Description
LAJAUNIE -c.1900 " Lajaunie orthopédiste, rue d'Alsace-Lorraine-Toulouse ".
Rare antique Irrigator, Engraved "LAJAUNIE", in fine porcelain decorated with flowers and butterfly, enhanced with gilding, mounted on a chromed metal structure with manual pump and tap. The hinged lid bears engraved instructions for use: "Close the tap, pour in the liquid, turn the key to the right, open the J.L tap".
An object of intimate hygiene, this type of luxurious model was reserved for a wealthy clientele, unlike the commonplace versions made of simple metal. It is also associated with the history of brothels before 1914.
- exceptional condition - (mechanism in good working order)
Created in 1880 by the pharmacist Leon Lajaunie, the Cachou Lajaunie is a black liquorice pastille, presented in its emblematic round yellow metal box.
Taken over by the Sirven brothers in 1904, the brand was widely distributed in tobacconists' shops and very early on developed innovative advertising, notably with Leonetto Cappiello's posters.
Having become a symbol of Toulouse, the product spanned the XXᵉ century before ceasing production in 2024.
