Description
LAJAUNIE -c.1890 - COUNTRY PHARMACY GIFT BOX Very rare portable wooden medical case, engraved "LAJAUNIE Pharmacien Toulouse" on a brass plate, complete (key, handle, drawer, accessories), containing bottles and first-aid kits. Dimensions: 18 × 18 × 15 cm. Inside are 20 acid-etched and labelled glass vials, mostly containing various powders and liquids. There's also a cardboard box containing 5 sachets of emetic powder, a pipette and three miscellaneous tools, plus instructions for an infallible rabies remedy! N.B.: Sold as is, for collection only, contents not intended for use and not guaranteed. Good condition, complete. There are a few discreet wormholes and a slight crack in the wood at the rear left, on the edge of a corner, which in no way detracts from the presentation or rigidity of the set. Created in 1880 by pharmacist Leon Lajaunie, Cachou Lajaunie is a black liquorice pastille, presented in its iconic round yellow tin. Taken over by the Sirven brothers in 1904, the brand was widely distributed in tobacconists' shops and very early on developed innovative advertising, notably with Leonetto Cappiello's posters. Having become a symbol of Toulouse, the product spanned the XXᵉ century before ceasing production in 2024. Haute-Garonne/Occitania
