The Compagnie fermière de publicité des grands réseaux de chemins de fer français (CFP), created in 1927, is responsible for commercial advertising in the carriages of the major French rail networks.
The result of a merger between several specialist companies, it obtained exclusive concessions from the companies (Nord, Est, PO, PLM, État, etc.) in return for a fee on revenues.
Its activity marked the development of on-board advertising on trains between the wars, before being reorganised with the creation of the SNCF in 1938.
Created in 1880 by the pharmacist Leon Lajaunie, Cachou Lajaunie is a black liquorice pastille presented in its emblematic round yellow tin.
Taken over by the Sirven brothers in 1904, the brand was widely distributed in tobacconists' shops and very early on developed innovative advertising, notably with Leonetto Cappiello's posters.
Having become a symbol of Toulouse, the product spanned the XXᵉ century before ceasing production in 2024.
