Description
MENIER CHOCOLATE - 1931
Very rare pair of original wooden folding chairs with octagonal enamelled medallions. 82 x 45 x 45 cm
These chairs, displayed on the terraces of the Menier chocolate pavilion at the 1931 Paris International Colonial Exhibition (see vintage postcard), have enamelled medallions on the back featuring the Menier little girl from Edia's Art Deco creations by O.Gus.
They are in a remarkable state of preservation, being entirely original right down to the fastenings. The colours of the medallions are perfectly preserved, with great freshness and intensity, and optimal brilliance. There are some very discreet chips at the fixing points, but these have no effect on the visual.
The ensemble, which is highly homogeneous, stands out for its authenticity and particularly exceptional character.
Menier, founded in Paris in 1816 by Jean Antoine Brutus Menier, started out as a chemist before turning to chocolate. Set up in Noisiel in 1825, the company launched the first industrial chocolate bar in 1836. After becoming a major player in the chocolate industry in the 19th century, the company declined after 1945, before becoming part of a number of major groups, although it remains an iconic brand.
