Description
CACHOU LAJAUNIE - c.1940-50
Reunion of two original square cardboard advertising boxes. 5 x 5 x 1.5 cm. Produced during the Second World War, linked to the metal economy.
"19, rue d'Aubuisson - Toulouse".
- Good condition - one is complete, still full of sweets but sunburnt, the other has retained its colour but has one side missing (empty).
Created in 1880 by pharmacist Leon Lajaunie, Cachou Lajaunie is a black liquorice pastille presented in its iconic round yellow tin.
Taken over by the Sirven brothers in 1904, the brand was widely distributed in tobacconists' shops and very early on developed innovative advertising, notably with Leonetto Cappiello's posters.
Having become a symbol of Toulouse, the product spanned the XXᵉ century before ceasing production in 2024.
