CACHOU LAJAUNIE -c.1900
Rare original lithographed tin advertising box. 4.3 cm diameter and 1.7 cm high. Printed by "P.Willame et cie Clichy".
"Pharmacie Alsace-Lorraine ; Rue Alsace-Lorraine, 6 ; prix de la boite 0f50".
On the reverse, "Membre du Jury" (Member of the Jury), participation in the international exhibitions of 1887 (gold medals) and 1895 (out of competition).
Traces of corrosion around the edges, missing paint layer.
Created in 1880 by pharmacist Leon Lajaunie, Cachou Lajaunie is a black liquorice pastille presented in its iconic round yellow tin.
Taken over by the Sirven brothers in 1904, the brand was widely distributed in tobacconists' shops and very early on developed innovative advertising, notably with Leonetto Cappiello's posters.
Having become a symbol of Toulouse, the product spanned the XXᵉ century before ceasing production in 2024.
