Description
BERGER - c.1930 Very rare original advertising aniseed jug in white ceramic with black lettering in relief on both sides, known as the "bibendum". 17.4 cm high. Marked below "St Clément - France". A very rare, high quality model in very good condition. The colours, markings and brilliance are remarkably well preserved. There is only very discreet surface damage to the beak, which has no effect on the presentation. - An emblematic piece for the collector - Berger, a brand originating from the distillery founded in 1830 in Couvet (Switzerland) by Charles-Frédéric Berger, developed in the 19th century with a renowned and award-winning absinthe. In 1878, his sons set up in Marseille, where the company experienced major growth, registering the brand in 1892 and expanding internationally. After absinthe was banned in France in 1915, the brand switched to aniseed-flavoured aperitifs in the 1920s, giving birth to the famous "Berger". Now part of the MBWS (Marie-Brizard & Wine Spirits) Bordeaux group. Bouches-du-Rhône/PACA Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur
