Description
BRASSERIE GÉNÉRALE DU MIDI - c.1910 Original lithographed advertising card. 53 x 36 cm. Printed by "imp.Moullot fils ainé - Marseille". Signed "BAUD" (Edouard-Louis BAUD Suisse 1878-1948 born in Geneva) Good condition - very good colours, a trace of fold in the lower left corner. Depicts a Pierrot holding a mug of beer with an elegant woman in the background and a space for a perpetual calendar. Founded in 1879 in Ruoms, Brasserie Générale du Midi (BGM) quickly established itself as a major local player after setting up near the Hugon & Payan brewery. The company absorbed Hugon & Payan in 1919 and went from strength to strength in the middle of the 20th century, particularly with the distribution of "bière de Ruoms" in the south of France and for export. Later integrated into COGEBRA, it reached its peak in the 1950s before declining in the face of competition from the major groups and closing in 1967. Ardèche/Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes
