The company was founded in 1834 by Jean-Baptiste Combier in Saumur, first as a confectioner then as a distiller and creator of Triple Sec. The distillery, established in 1848, also developed the Combier Elixir. Under the impetus of his son James, the company experienced significant growth in France and abroad.
