Energol, a brand of lubricants developed in the 1920s by BP, was part of the expansion of the Anglo-Persian Oil Company founded in 1909 after the discovery of oil in Persia.
In France, it is linked to Société Générale des Huiles de Pétrole (SGHP), created in 1921 with Société Georges Lesieur et ses fils (Lesieur edible oils), producer of Energol oils, before its integration into Société Française des Pétroles BP (British Petroleum) in 1954.
