Description
TEXACO - "Motor Oil" 1934
Original curved enamelled advertising plate for Texaco motor oils. 75 x 50 cm.
"Émaillerie Belge Bruxelles - 1934
Signed "Delamare & Cerf - Brussels".
Good overall condition - The enamel is of good quality, with a particularly high degree of convexity. The surface remains very clean, with no noticeable micro-scratches, which enhances its visual appeal. There are just a few chips in the corners and partial shine on the upper and lower parts.
Founded in 1902 in Beaumont (Texas, USA) under the name The Texas Company, Texaco quickly adopted its current name, derived from an abbreviation in a commercial telegram.
In 1905, the company expanded into Europe, opening a site in Antwerp (Belgium) under the name Continental Petroleum Company. Backed by a constantly evolving range of innovative products, the Texaco brand quickly established itself on the European market.
Anecdote: the Texaco red star is a direct reference to the state of Texas, nicknamed "The Lone Star State", and takes its name from the star on the state flag.
Signed by Francis Delamare, the poster artist, and accompanied by the word "Cerf", probably referring to a collaborator, as was customary on this type of enamelled production.
Francis Delamare (1895-1972)
