Description
MOBILOIL - c.1960 "Complete greasing system
Original enamelled advertising plaque in the form of a double-sided coat of arms.
100 x 96 cm. "ART-FRANCE-Luynes. Touraine "
- Very good condition.
Vivid colours, beautiful brightness.
Some slight localized deterioration, mainly around the edges.
Homogeneous, well preserved on both sides.
Mobiloil's origins lie in the late 19th century in the United States, within the Vacuum Oil Company, linked to Standard Oil founded by John D. Rockefeller.
After the break-up of Standard Oil in 1911, the Standard Oil Company of New York (Socony) became one of the group's heirs.
From 1904, the brand used the figure of the Gargoyle for its lubricants. In the 1930s, after the Socony-Vacuum merger, the famous winged Pegasus appeared, a symbol of speed and modernity, which became the emblem of Mobiloil.
