Benzo-Moteur, a brand launched in 1885 by Fenaille et Despeaux, a company founded in 1852 in Bègles, specialising in oils and then oil refining.
The company made a name for itself with Saxoléine, an award-winning lamp oil, and the creation of Raffinerie du Midi in 1882.
Having become a major player in the sector, it evolved in the twentieth century within La Pétroléenne, before being integrated into the structures linked to Standard Oil, the origin of the future Esso.
