Air France was founded in 1933 through the merger of several French airlines: Air Orient, Air Union, Lignes Farman, CIDNA and Aéropostale.
The Air France logo is based on the Air Orient emblem, a winged horse with a dragon tail, renamed the "Crevette".
In the 1930s, LINEAS AÉRAS POSTALES ESPAÑOLAS (LAPE) joined forces with Air France to operate flights between France and Spain, in particular via the Pyrenees. This collaboration was part of the development of European air networks before it was interrupted by the Spanish Civil War.
