Description
LATÉCOÈRE AIRLINES - c.1920
Original domed lithographed advertising sheet. 48.5 x 30.5 cm "B.Sirven.Imp.Edit.Toulouse. -Toulouse. Paris".
Good condition.
The colours are vivid and well preserved, with a beautiful surface sheen that enhances the visual.
There are a few slight alterations, mainly around the edges, which remain discreet. In the upper left-hand section, the paint layer is slightly brittle with localised wear, but this has no major impact on the overall presentation.
The overall effect remains harmonious.
Lignes Aériennes Latécoère, founded in 1918 by Pierre-Georges Latécoère, inaugurated the first airmail links between Toulouse, Africa and South America. From 1919, "La Ligne" expanded as far as Dakar (1925), driven by the principle of absolute regularity despite the rudimentary flight conditions.
In 1927 it became the Compagnie Générale Aéropostale, reaching South America and becoming a legend thanks to its pilots, including Jean Mermoz and Antoine de Saint-Exupéry.
Integrated into Air France in 1933, this epic flight remains a major symbol of the nascent aviation industry.
