Description
PIANOS A.BORD - c. 1900 PARIS
Signed "René PÉAN
An exceptionally rare original advertising enamelled plate, domed, practically never offered on the market, made by a Parisian enameller renowned for the quality of his workmanship "Décoration Céramique & émaux - Suresnes, Paris". 50 x 25 cm.
This anthology piece is captivating for the extraordinary freshness of its colours, which remain vivid, luminous and remarkably deep. The enamel, of masterly quality, retains a brilliant shine, perfectly highlighting the balance of the composition between illustration and typography.
It is in a remarkable state of preservation, with only two minor alterations to the lower edge. The original wooden frame (classic and not advertising), intended for hanging on the wall, is missing.
- This is a rare opportunity to acquire a true masterpiece for a major collection.
Founded in Paris in 1840 by Antoine Bord, a former worker at Pleyel, the A. Bord set up its offices and shops at 14 bis boulevard Poissonnière in Paris. The company became one of France's leading piano manufacturers in the nineteenth century, making a name for itself with a number of technical innovations and producing more pianos than Érard, Gaveau or Pleyel between 1880 and 1910. After the death of Antoine Bord in 1888, the company continued to operate, before gradually becoming part of Pleyel over the course of the twentieth century.
René Péan (1875-1955), a pupil of Jules Chéret, was one of the leading poster artists of the Belle Époque. Trained at the Chaix printing works, he produced numerous posters for shows, cabarets, department stores and tourism. His style, characterised by bright colours and a strong sense of movement, contributed to the boom in lithographic posters in turn-of-the-century Paris.
The black and white plate is not part of the lot, is for illustrative purposes only and is not for sale.
