The cruiser "Almaz" belonged to the Russian Imperial Fleet. It took part in the Battle of Tsushima and was one of the ships to reach Vladivostok afterwards. She was launched on 2 June 1903. She took an active part in the First World War. In January 1918, the Almaz took part in the Rumcherod revolt against the Ukrainian Central Rada and the establishment of Soviet power in Odessa. It fell into the hands of the Reds and was turned into a prison for white officers and a maritime court. Atrocious torture of white officers took place on board the cruiser "Almaz".
