Description
56 zolotniks (583 thousandths) gold oval cufflink, with translucent yellow enamel decoration on a radiating guilloché ground, set in the centre with a sapphire cabochon in a wreath of leaves. Wear to the enamel. Saint Petersburg, 1908-1917. Goldsmith: "LL" probably for Leiba LITWIN. H. 2 cm. Gross weight: 4.6 g. Provenance - Given by Grand Duke Michael Alexandrovich of Russia (1878-1918) to Serge Benett and Edith Benett, née Rata (1882-?), respectively riding instructor and governess to the Grand Duke during his exile in England between 1912 and 1914. - The estate then passed to their daughter, Mary Benett (1916-1983). - Then by descent.
