Set of two drawings, one in watercolour, graphite, ink and gouache on paper, signed and dated lower left "Joseph CHARLEMAGNE 1854", captioned in ink underneath "Château N. Wsevolojsky / built in 1840 after the design by S.M. l'Empereur Nicolas", the other showing the ground plan of the castle, in ink and graphite on paper, captioned "Plan of the castle N. Wsevolojsky d'Ouiste Pojevokoije on the Kama / d'après les defsins de C. W. Peterhoff 1850".

History
Nikolai Sergeyevich Vsevolojski (1772-1857) was an officer, administrator and man of letters from the Russian nobility. Distinguished for his military bravery, he was awarded the Order of St George (4th class), a symbol of merit recognised by the Empire. After his career in the army, he devoted himself to publishing and historical works, playing an active role in the dissemination of knowledge in Russia. As Governor of Tver, he epitomised the enlightened aristocrat who was both a servant of the State and a player in the intellectual world.
