The 1889 “World’s Fair” took place in Paris from 6 May to 31 October and was dedicated to the centenary of the storming of the Bastille. It was specifically for the 1889 “World’s Fair” that the engineer Gustave Eiffel was commissioned to build the famous Eiffel Tower, which was originally intended to be dismantled at the end of the event.
