METELNIKOV Sergey (1870–1946) – Autograph
• Typewritten letter signed by S. Metelnikov, addressed to D. Riabouchinsky on the occasion of his 25th anniversary in scientific research. 1929. 1 ½ pp., in French, 27.5 x 21 cm. ‘It was in Kuchino, near Moscow, in 1904, that you founded your famous Aerodynamic Institute, the first of its kind. At that time, people were only just beginning to glimpse the possibility of flying through the air using mechanical energy. You rightly believed that aeronautics could only progress if it were founded on solid scientific principles. It was therefore necessary to establish a complete theory of fluid mechanics and verify through experimentation that this theory was correct. »
