This book was compiled at the behest and under the direct supervision of Grand Duke Alexander Mikhailovich with the aim of creating a contemporary guide to international maritime law for Russian officers. The publication presents the entire system of international maritime law, the principles on which various issues and precedents were resolved. It highlights the specific features of the legislation of the world’s major states. Baron Karl Karlovich Buxhoeveden (1856–1935) was a Russian diplomat and candidate of law. From 1910 to 1917, he served as Russian Ambassador to Denmark and later lived in exile in Brussels.
