VINBERG Feodor (1861–1929) The Way of the Cross. The Roots of Evil. Second edition, Part I (only). Munich, 1922. 375 pp., in-8, later binding (retaining the publisher’s cover), handwritten bookplate ‘Nikolai Kotliarewsky’ on the title page, A.B.E. Rare (banned in the USSR). Russian Art Fedor VINBERG (1861–1929) The Way of the Cross. The Roots of Evil. 2nd ed. Part 1 [and only]. Munich, 1922. 375 pp., 22.2 × 14.5 cm, owner’s binding (with original cover preserved), handwritten bookplate ‘Nikolai Kotliarevsky’ on the title page, general condition: fair. A rarity (prohibited for import into the USSR). The book devotes particular attention to the role of the Jewish community in the collapse of the Russian Empire. Fyodor Viktorovich Vinberg (1861–1929) – colonel in the Russian Army. He was Master of the Royal Household, a colonel in Her Majesty Empress Alexandra Feodorovna’s Life Guard Uhlan Regiment, and an active opponent of Freemasons and non-Orthodox Christians. Winberg was the first person in Europe to publish ‘The Protocols of the Elders of Zion’. The books and the journal edited by Winberg are extremely rare, as Winberg’s extremism did not meet with much sympathy among the émigré community.
