Description
A chachka awarded as the 1st Imperial Prize ‘For Fencing’,
the guard featuring a single gilt-bronze branch, with one side bearing a medallion inscribed in Cyrillic with the words ‘For Fencing Competition’ and centred on the monogram of Tsar Alexander II within a wreath of oak and laurel leaves, the tang is of blackened wood, with a brown strap and tassel embroidered with silver thread; the steel blade is engraved on one side with a medallion depicting the god Mars and on the other with a panel filled with numbers, surmounted by two crossed swords. With its wooden scabbard covered in brown leather and fitted with gilded bronze fittings, engraved with the letter ‘K’ at the top. Signs of wear and impact.
