Description
ORDER OF SAINT VLADIMIR A rare badge of the Order of Saint Vladimir, 1st class, in silver and vermeil; the silver star has eight radiating, domed points, with every other point gilded, the centre in vermeil, red-enamelled on a guilloché background, inscribed in silver letters with “ПОЛЬЗА, ЧЕСТЬ И СЛАВА” (“Usefulness, Honour and Glory”), surrounding a black-enamelled centre inscribed in gold letters with the initials of the Order and a miniature cross. Fastened with a swivel pin on the reverse. Good condition, with slight tarnish and wear. Foreign-made, possibly German, circa 1840–1860. No fineness mark or silversmith’s mark; the silversmith may have been Karl Schmitt. Diameter: 7.5 cm. Gross weight: 45.3 g.
