Description
Silver medal “for the Pacification of Hungary and Transylvania, 1849”. On the obverse, the coat of arms of the Russian Empire surmounted by the radiant All-Seeing Eye and surrounded by an inscription in Church Slavonic: “God is with us; understand this, O peoples, and submit”. Oxidation on the reverse. With a modern ribbon in the colours of St George and St Andrew. Diameter: 2.9 cm. Weight: 11.5 g. History Minted on 22 January 1850, this medal was intended to reward military personnel who had taken part in the suppression of the revolution in Hungary in June and July 1849. Between May and August 1850, the Saint Petersburg Mint struck 213,593 medals.
