Description
A rare badge mounted as a brooch for press correspondents accredited to the coronation of Emperor Nicholas II on 26 May 1896. Made of 84 zolotniks of silver (875 parts per thousand) with a vermeil-plated background; round in shape, with an appliqué decoration in the centre depicting the Imperial Crown of Russia within a wreath of olive and laurel leaves, itself surrounded by a knotted ribbon bearing the inscription “Correspondent’ in English and Russian, enhanced with polychrome enamel. Good condition, slight wear. St Petersburg, circa 1896. Silversmith: Johann K. OLENIUS (active c. 1893–1896). Diameter: 5.3 cm. Gross weight: 30.0 g.
