A gold token in the shape of a miniature sabretache belonging to the Hussars of His Majesty Tsar Nicholas II 56 zolotniks (583 thousandths) and red enamel on a guilloché background; the reverse opens like a clamshell and contains a circular photograph holder; the back is engraved with a dedication in French “To Willy Wolford / a memento / from the three Hussars / Count / Serge Ignatieff / Serge Maltzoff / Count / Illarion Vorontzoff Dachkoff / Petrograd 1917”. Slight wear. Saint Petersburg, 1908–1917. Silversmith: ‘K.B’ in Cyrillic. H. 6.0 x W. 2.7 cm. Gross weight: 18.9 g. Background The dedication brings together three officers from His Majesty’s Guard Hussars Regiment: Count Sergei Alekseevich Ignatiev (1888–1955), Sergei Sergeevich Maltsov, a cornet in the regiment in 1914, and Count Illarion Illarionovich Vorontsov-Dachkov (1893–1920), a graduate of the Nicholas Cavalry School in 1914. This token was presented to a certain ‘Willy Wolford’, a member of the same regiment, and made at the very moment the imperial regime came to an end and the regiment ceased to bear the title ‘of His Majesty’.
