Description
On Duty in Garrisons, or on the Relief of Guards and Sentries, 3rd edition, field printing press of the General Staff of the First Army, 1823, 55 pp., text in Russian. Minor creases, stains, handwritten notes. In-8 format, light brown calfskin half-binding (shown for wear). Background The ‘First Army’ was a temporary formation of the Russian Imperial Army, established in October 1814, with Mikhail Bogdanovich Barclay de Tolly as commander-in-chief. It was intended to guard the western frontier of the Russian Empire. Some of its units took part in the Russo-Turkish War of 1828–1829 and in the suppression of the Polish uprising of November 1830. Related work A similar copy (1818 edition) is held at the State Historical Museum in Moscow (inventory number МФ/2-650).
