Description
Set of 8 engravings and lithographs from the 19th and early 20th centuries, depicting:
- Peter the Great, Emperor of All Russia, an oval engraving after J.M. Nattier, engraved by F. Tchemesoff, a student at the Imperial Academy of Fine Arts in St Petersburg, with a quatrain and a medallion bearing a coat of arms;
- Illustrated frontispiece: Рисунки одежды и вооруженія Россійскихъ войскъ. 1801–1825 [Plates of the uniforms and armaments of Russian troops, 1801–1825], Part X of A.V. Viskovatov’s reference work, Historical Description of the Clothing and Armament of Russian Troops, St Petersburg, Military Printing Office, 1851, vignette decorated with helmets, flags, drums and weapons;
- Heraldic plate: double-headed eagle holding an anchor, with the caption ‘Seal of the establishments of the Ministry [of the Navy]’, surrounded by a grey circle indicating the ‘actual size of the seal’;
- Portrait of Vladimir Savvich Smirnov (Владимир Саввич Смирнов, 1784–1865) seated beside a bust of Alexander I;
- Alexander I, a bust portrait in uniform, sash and bicorne with a plume, dated in pencil ‘1835’;
- Tsarevich Alexei Nikolaevich in Guard uniform, rifle in hand, in a palace interior;
- Lieutenant-General Liprandi, commander of the left wing of the Russian operational army before Sevastopol, lithograph by C. Lanzedelli;
- Count Hans Karl von Diebitsch-Zabalkansky, Imperial Russian Field Marshal.
Stains on several leaves, a few tears and small marginal losses, pin holes on one leaf, one engraving heavily pitted (stains).
