Hardback in the publisher’s original binding, upper cover in black/anthracite cloth embossed in silver with the title ‘ИМПЕРАТОРСКАЯ ГЛАВНАЯ КВАРТИРА / ИСТОРІЯ ГОСУДАРЕВОЙ СВИТЫ / царствованіе Императора Александра II / Часть 2’; leather spine (shown for wear) — red cloth band adorned with a large gilded wing featuring a tassel and scroll motif, embossed in relief, framed by silver-coloured borders, with an inner black cloth band bearing the gilded title and an embossed floral motif. Bound by the G. Erling art workshop (Saint Petersburg), with cover design and vignettes by the painter N. S. Samokich. Exceptional provenance — ornamental title page (engraved in shades of gold, featuring the imperial double-headed eagle and crowned numerals) bearing the handwritten-printed inscription: ‘ЭКЗЕМПЛЯРЪ Его Императорскаго Высочества Великаго Князя Павла Александровича’ (‘Copy for His Imperial Highness Grand Duke Paul Alexandrovich’) — that is, the personalised copy specially produced for Grand Duke Paul Alexandrovich of Russia (1860–1919), the youngest son of Alexander II — whose father’s reign is precisely chronicled in this very volume.
