Description
History of the Pavlovsky Regiment of the Imperial Guard (История Лейб-Гвардии Павловского полка. 1790–1890). VORONOV, P. — BOUTOVSKI, V. — WALBERG, I. — KAREPOV, N. St Petersburg, 1890. Parts 1 and 2 in a single volume: text, followed by Формы обмундирования... [Atlas of Uniforms], 43 chromolithographed plates. Publisher’s binding in brown percaline, richly gilt, with the tsars’ numerals surrounding that of Alexander III, ‘1790–1890’ cartouche, decorated spine. Large quarto format (35 x 28 cm). Handwritten dedication on the title page: ‘To the Saint-Cyr Military Academy, General Elisseeff, 25 December 1898 / 6 January 1899’; round stamp in blue ink ‘École Spéciale — Bibliothèque Militaire’ (Saint-Cyr); the school’s bookplate bearing its motto ‘Ils s’instruisent pour vaincre’ pasted onto the inside back cover. Partially handwritten label on the back cover: ‘History of the Paul Regiment of the Imperial Guard 1790–1890 — Donated by General Elisseeff, 6 January 1899’, with a handwritten note stating that the book was presented to Commander Souchier, head of the Saint-Cyr delegation sent to the regiment’s centenary celebrations, accompanied by Captain Debay (geography teacher) and two officer cadets. In good overall condition, with minor signs of wear; the interior is in good condition.
