Description
A rare officer’s tunic from the Atamansky Cossack Regiment of the Guard, of His Imperial Highness the Crown Prince, 1874 model. Made of light blue woollen cloth, with all silver trimmings, fastening straight down the front with eight twisted metal clasps and eight rows of brandebourgs (in accordance with the decree of 10 July 1867 issued by Alexander II; these were abolished on 25 April 1882 by Alexander III), the stand-up collar and straight sleeve facings (since December 1874) embroidered with silver thread in a two-column pattern, with a pair of shoulder tabs in light blue cloth and silver braid, each fastened with a button bearing the silver Imperial Eagle, indicating that the wearer was an ‘esaul’ (есаул, a captain in the Cossack hierarchy). The lining is of heavily textured cream-coloured silk. Holes, missing sections, damage and wear; sold as is. Russia, 1874–1882.
