Description
Summer tunic (kittel) worn by a general serving on a General Staff (1914–1917). Straight-cut, made of khaki fabric with five buttons featuring a gilded brass eagle, red piping, and the insignia of the Constantin Artillery School in gilded bronze with enamel; major-general’s epaulettes (two embroidered stars) with gold chevron braid on red cloth and a gold button. Signs of wear, damage and missing parts. First World War period. Bibliography G. Gorokhoff, Russian Generals, 1914–1917, Part 1, p. 58 (our tunic is reproduced here, although it has lost its aiguillettes and decorations, and the epaulettes have been replaced).
