Description
Officer’s helmet of the 10th Line Infantry Regiment “Novoingermanland”, 1844 model, a memento of the Crimean War. The helmet is covered in black leather, with silver fittings throughout; the front plate features an imperial eagle set upon a peltum, centred with the number ‘10’ in gilded brass (for officers); the chinstraps have metal scales; the top features a flaming grenade resting on a cruciform base with four rivets; visor and neck guard in black leather. Lining unstitched but present; restoration and wear to the leather; some parts replaced; fittings in good condition. Reign of Nicholas I, 1844–1855. H. 34 x W. 15 x D. 30 cm.
