A deputy’s helmet with a spiked crest, worn by a General of the Horse Guard in ordinary dress, 1845 model. Dome-shaped and lined with black leather, it features a gilded brass plate on the front with the Saint-André badge of the Guard in the centre, in silver 84 zolotniks (875 thousandths) and enamels; it is topped by a flaming grenade on its gilded brass mount with four rivets (one missing); chinstraps in gilded brass scales with an officer’s cockade on the right, made of metal imitating a white, orange and black rosette; black leather visor edged with gilded brass and neck guard; inner headband in white leather. Damage to the leather; the centre of the Saint-André badge is coming loose; the brass badge on the front needs reattaching. As is. Plate: St Petersburg, after 1899, silversmith: PK in Cyrillic.
