Full dress cap of an officer of the Saint Petersburg Guards Regiment of King Frederick William III of Prussia, 1909 model. Made of ‘Tsar’s green’ woollen cloth with a lower band of white cloth and yellow piping; the front is adorned with a large plaque of the Order of St Andrew in silver (84 zolotniks, 875 thousandths), enamelled, bearing in its centre the motto ‘За Веру и Верность ’ (For Faith and Loyalty), surmounted by a metal scroll bearing the honorary inscription ‘За отличие’ (For Distinction) for his conduct during the campaigns of 1812–1814, and its cockade; the top of the kiver is covered by a panel of black patent leather, edged with a gold-coloured metallic chevron braid, a plume of metallic threads, sequins and wool threads in the colours of St George, chin straps with silver scales, secured to metal rosettes, the visor in black patent leather. Signs of wear, minor damage to the white fabric and braiding, moth holes, losses. Reign of Nicholas II. St. Petersburg hallmarks dated before 1899 and an illegible silversmith’s mark.
