Officer’s cap of the Lancers (Uhlans) Regiment of His Majesty the Emperor, in black patent leather, with the double-headed imperial eagle in silver-plated brass applied to the front, featuring a plaque of the Order of St Andrew the First-Called in silver (84 zolotniks (875 parts per thousand) and polychrome enamels, and surmounted by an attached scroll, engraved in Cyrillic with the inscription ‘За взятiе города Врацы 28 Октября 1877 г.’ (For the capture of the town of Vratsa, 28 October 1877.), the square plate in black patent leather edged with gold braid, the reverse in ribbed yellow velvet with silver-plated braided cords, the hinged chinstraps in silver-plated brass bearing the silversmith’s hallmark “AT” within a heart. With cockade and plume. Signs of wear, scratches and missing parts. Russia, reign of Nicholas II. Hallmarks from Saint Petersburg, prior to 1899, and an illegible silversmith’s mark.
