Description
Papakha of an officer in His Majesty the Emperor’s Guard Cossack Regiment, 1882 model. The tall cap in black astrakhan fur (with missing sections), topped by a red woollen cloth cap top with cruciform gold thread braiding and edging, featuring a silver St Andrew’s plaque on the front, weighing 84 zolotniks (875 parts per thousand) with polychrome enamelling, surmounted by a metal ribbon of distinction engraved with the Cyrillic inscription ‘За отличие в Турецкую войну 1877 и 1878 годов ’ (“For Distinction in the Turkish War of 1877 and 1878”), awarded on 17 (29) April 1878 to the 1st, 3rd and 4th sotnias. Missing its officer’s cockade; some wear and tear. Lining in black leather and red silk, with the monogram “Ya. R.” in Cyrillic in gold stamping. Russia, 1882–1907. The plate: St Petersburg, before 1899. H. 13.5 x W. 18 x D. 19 cm.
