General’s chapka of the 8th Smolensk Dragoon Regiment, Model 1882, made of white woollen cloth and astrakhan, with a braided and tasselled upper rim, gold chevrons in a cross pattern on the crown, front plate featuring a double-headed eagle in gilded metal, surmounted by a gilded brass scroll engraved in Cyrillic with ‘За отличие’ (For Distinction). Good condition, with slight wear and tarnish on the metal. Stamp of the manufacturer K. Chifler in St Petersburg, Purveyor to the Imperial Court. Russia, era of Alexander III or Nicholas II.
