Description
A soldier’s chapka from the Dragoon regiments, Model 1882, probably from the 44th Nijegorodski Regiment, made of raspberry-coloured woollen cloth with a black sheepskin band; at the top of the cap is a cross-shaped braid, with the double-headed imperial eagle in gilded brass set in the centre, surmounted by the ‘За отличие’ (For Distinction) ribbon in gilded brass with black enamel; the cockade is missing. The wool is worn. Russia, c. 1900. H. 11 x W. 16 x D. 24 cm.
