Cap band of the General Staff of the Commander-in-Chief of a fleet, made of black silk taffeta, bearing the inscription “Штабь К-Щаго Флотомь” in Cyrillic in gold lettering at the centre, with gold anchor motifs at the ends. Russia, late 19th – early 20th century. H. 3.5 x W. 135 cm. Background This ribbon was not that of a ship, but of personnel assigned to the headquarters of a fleet commander (Baltic, Black Sea, etc.). Sailors serving at headquarters wore a ribbon indicating their administrative posting rather than the name of a vessel.
