Cap band from the armoured cruiser *Duc d’Édimbourg*, made of black silk taffeta, bearing the inscription ‘герцог эдинбургский’ in Cyrillic in gold lettering at the centre, with gold anchor motifs at the ends. Good condition. Russia, early 20th century. H. 3.5 x W. 144 cm. History The armoured cruiser “Duke of Edinburgh” was part of the “Admiral General” class. It was named after Alfred of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha (1844–1900), Duke of Edinburgh and husband of Grand Duchess Maria Alexandrovna of Russia (1853–1920). Built from 1875 onwards, she was deployed to the Far East, then to the Mediterranean, where she served in the International Squadron. Used as a training ship in the early 1900s, she was decommissioned in 1915.
